About ShoreAT

Shore Active Transportation Association incorporated in March 2013 as an Association by a group of cyclists, walkers, trail users interested in improving safety for all types of active transportation in our communities from Porters Lake to Gaetz Brook and the surroundings communities in between.

SATA's Objectives

  • To promote and enhance Active Transportation including but not necessarily limited to the rural communities of Porters Lake, West Porters Lake, Middle Porters Lake, East Lawrencetow, Three Fathom Harbour, Grand Desert, Seaforth, Head of Chezzetcook, Gaetz Brook, Conrod Settlement, East and West Chezzetcook.
  • To understand our communities' Active Transportation issues and to respond to them in a way that promotes safety, physical activity, livability and a sense of community. Active Transportation is any travel that is human powered and non-motorized.

Accomplishments to Date:

  • Bike Week Events including biking adventurers and family bike rides
  • Bike Fest - Lake and Shore Recreation Centre 2013 and 2014
  • Steering Committee for Halifax Municipality Active Transportation Plan for area
  • Feasibility Plan in process for Acadian Marsh Trail - to be completed August 2015

  • Awareness and communication - web site improvements, social media, brochures and a variety of awareness techniques
  • Many weekly led bike rides, snow showing and nordic pole walks in our communities
